Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology

The Dar Es Salaam Institute of Technology invites applications from qualified Tanzanians for the admission into the Institute’s Ordinary Diploma and Certificate Programmes for the academic year 2012/2013 scheduled to commence in mid-October 2012.

1.0 ORDINARY DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

1.1 PROGRAMMES OFFERED

The Institute offers the following three years courses leading to Ordinary Diploma (OD) in Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Science & Laboratory Technology and Biomedical Equipment Engineering.

1.2 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

(a) APPLICATION THROUGH DIRECT ADMISSION

Minimum Entry Qualification

(i) Holder of good Certificate of Secondary Education with a minimum of “C” grade (or 9 points based in the following conversion: A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4) in the following three subjects; Physics/ Engineering Science, Mathematics and Chemistry or English, or must have a good General Certificate Course in Engineering (GCE). Applicants of Science and Laboratory Technology and Biomedical Equipment Engineering programmes must have passed Chemistry and Biology in addition to the above requirements.

OR

(ii) Holder of Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSEE) with principal level passes in either Physics or Mathematics for PCM or PGM combination.

(b) APPLICATION THROUGH PRE-ENTRY COURSES (INDIRECT ADMISSION)

Minimum Entry Qualification

(i) Holder of Certificate of Secondary Education with minimum passes of “D” in Mathematics, Physics/Engineering Science, Chemistry or English.

OR

(ii) Holder of Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) with a minimum passes of “D” in Mathematics and at least Trade Test II/NVA level II or above in the related field of study from VETA accredited Institution.
Applicants of Science and Laboratory Technology and Biomedical Equipment Engineering programmes must have passed Chemistry and Biology in addition to the above requirements.

OR

(iii) Holder of Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) with passes in 5 subjects including Mathematics and English.

CONDITION FOR PRE-ENTRY COURSE ADMISSION

Qualified candidates must undergo and pass a twelve weeks Pre-Entry training before consideration for admission. The tuition fees is Tshs. 190,000/= for males and 145000/= for females excluding costs for meals and accommodation. Candidates must show evidence of availability of sponsorship before admission is granted.

There will be limited vacancies under government sponsorship for females and who will pass the pre-entry course.

2.0 CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES

2.1 BASIC TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (NTA LEVEL 4) PROGRAMME

2.1.1 The Institute offers a one-year Basic Technician Certificate in Information Technology (NTA Level 4) which leads successful candidates to admission eligibility of the IT-Technician Certificate (NTA Level 5).

2.1.2 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

(a) APPLICATION THROUGH DIRECT ADMISSION

Minimum Entry Qualification

(i) Holder of good Certificate of Secondary Education with a minimum of “C” grade (or 9 points based in the following conversion: A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4) in the following three subjects; Physics/ Engineering Science, Mathematics and Chemistry or English, or must have a good General Certificate Course in Engineering (GCE).

OR

(ii) Holder of Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSEE) with principal level passes in either Physics or Mathematics for PCM or PGM combination.

(b) APPLICATION FOR ADMISION THROUGH PRE-ENTRY COURSE (INDIRECT ADMISSION)

Minimum Entry Qualification

(i) Holder of Certificate of Secondary Education with minimum passes of “D” in Mathematics, Physics or Engineering Science and Chemistry or English.

OR

(ii) Holder of Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) with minimum pass of “D” in Mathematics, and at least Trade Test Grade II/NVA level II or above in Computer Hardware, Electronics or Electrical Engineering from VETA a accredited Institution.

OR

(iii) Holder of Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) with pass of “D” grade in Mathematics, English and with passes in 5 subjects.

OR

(iv) Holder of Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) with pass of “D” grade in Mathematics and Physics and has successfully attended a recognized IT course of not less than 4 months.

Qualified candidates must undergo and pass a twelve weeks Pre-Entry training before consideration for admission. The tuition fees is Tshs. 190,000/= for males and 145000/= for females excluding costs for meals and accommodation

2.2 TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (NTA LEVEL 5) PROGRAMME

2.2.1 The Institute offers a one-year Technician Certificate in Information Technology (NTA Level 5) which leads successful candidates to admission eligibility of the IT-Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6)

2.2.2 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

APPLICATION FOR ADMISION THROUGH PRE-ENTRY COURSE (INDIRECT ADMISSION)

Minimum Entry Qualification

Holder of Basic Technician Certificate in Information Technology (NTA Level 4) who completed studies from DIT (2004-2009) or equivalent from a NACTE recognised Institutions or equivalent from a NACTE recognised Institution.

Qualified candidates must undergo and pass a twelve weeks Pre-Entry training (Refresher Course) before consideration for admission. The tuition fees is Tshs. 190,000/= for males and 145000/= for females excluding costs for meals and accommodation

3.0 MODE OF APPLICATION

All candidates applying for Ordinary Diploma and Certificate are required to acquire application forms at the Office of Registrar of Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT), or may be downloaded from the following links:-

Note that

Applications through letters will not be processed.

Provision results will not be accepted for the year 2012/2013 applications

The duly filled Application forms for Ordinary Diploma and Certificate programmes will be considered only if accompanied by:

(i) An original pay in slip of non-refundable application fee of Tsh10,000/= for Tanzanian applicants or USD10 for Non-Tanzanian applicants payable to the Principal, Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology through any branch of NBC Ltd Bank, account No 011103007131

(ii) Certified copies of relevant certificates such as National ACSEE, National Form IV certificate, GCE, academic transcripts/ National Examination statements of results or valid results slip and birth certificate

(iii) Two coloured passport size personal photographs taken within the last six months.

4.0 FEES

Information on DIT fees is provided in the following link.Please click DIT Fees Structure For 2012/2013 All selected candidates will be required to fill in the Pre-Admission Commitment form that will be returned to the Institute with part of the fee payments as requirement for admission.

The amount of fees to be paid and deadline of payments will be announced by the Institute after the selection.

5.0 PRE-ENTRY COURSES

All pre-entry courses for OD and Certificate applicants will tentatively begin in July 2012.

6.0 CLOSING DATE

The closing date for receiving the application forms is 15th May, 2012
Closing date for applications should be observed. No consideration will be made for late applicants.

7.0 NOTE: You are advised to choose the right programme that you prefer since no change of programme will be entertained once the admission has been offered.

Submission of forged certificates or any false information is criminal offence and will be handled according to the law.
